Climate-Controlled Storage in Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia’s tropical heat and humidity are hard on anything sensitive — wine, artwork, electronics, documents, leather and musical instruments can warp, fade, corrode or grow mould in the wrong conditions. For these items BEAM Space offers air-conditioned, climate-controlled storage as a premium upgrade: a temperature- and humidity-stable environment kept within a controlled range all year round.
As with everything we store, it is door-to-door — our team collects from your home, transports your items with care, and returns them on demand. You pay per item, with no fixed-term contract.
What should go in climate-controlled storage
Most everyday belongings are perfectly happy in our standard storage, which is dehumidified. Climate-controlled (air-conditioned) storage is worth the upgrade for items that react to heat and humidity:
- Wine — a stable, cool temperature protects both the cork and the wine; heat and temperature swings spoil a bottle faster than anything else
- Artwork, paintings and photographs — humidity buckles canvas, fades pigment and encourages mould on paper
- Electronics — condensation and heat corrode circuit boards and degrade batteries
- Documents, books and archives — paper yellows, warps and grows mildew in damp air
- Leather, luxury goods and musical instruments — leather mildews and wooden instruments crack or de-tune with humidity swings
Standard BEAM Space storage is dehumidified and is fine for the vast majority of household items. Air-conditioned climate-controlled storage is an optional upgrade at a higher rate — choose it only for the items that genuinely need it.
Storing wine, art and electronics: what to prepare
Malaysia’s humidity is relentless, so the stable environment does most of the work — but a little preparation protects sensitive items further:
- In our climate, tuck a few silica-gel sachets into boxes of documents, photos or electronics to soak up any residual moisture before collection
- Wine — store bottles on their side to keep the cork moist, and leave them boxed in their original cases where possible to cushion against movement
- Artwork — wrap framed pieces in acid-free paper and add corner protectors; never seal paintings in plastic, which traps moisture against the surface
- Electronics — back up and wipe data, remove batteries to prevent leaks, and pack in original boxes or anti-static wrap where you can
- Documents and photos — use acid-free boxes and interleave photographs so they do not stick together
- Leather and instruments — clean and condition leather before storage, and loosen the strings on stringed instruments to ease the tension
Every item is photographed at our facility when it arrives, so you can always see what is in storage from the BEAM Space app. Your stored items are insured.
How to book climate-controlled storage
Booking takes a few minutes in the app or on the website — just flag that you need the air-conditioned option.
- Download the BEAM Space app for Android or iOS, or register on the website
- Register your account and your collection address
- Choose a pickup date and time, and select climate-controlled (air-conditioned) storage for the items that need it
- Have your items ready for our crew, packed as above
